“Florida's Move Forward: for Such a Time as this!”
Dear Florida State Coalition Members,
Florida State Coalition of the National Council of Negro Women, Inc. has enjoyed many blessed occasions, and it is evident that the membership is proud of them. A few of the more recent highlights will be shared, though there are many more from 2023 that could have been included. All good deeds are appreciated!
The virtual Founder's Day celebration last December was beautifully orchestrated and carried out by members of the collegiate Section members (with a lovely monologue and portrayal of the founder Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune rendered by President Carole Davis of the Central Florida Section. Sumayyah Muhammed, Ncnw President-FAMU Section, was Mistress of Ceremony.
In December, delegates and state members attended the Good Health WINs National Summit, Affiliates Assembly, and Dorothy I. Height Gala in Washington, D.C. They brought back pertinent information to share with the Sections. Comments have reflected an excellent delivery of events. Delegates to the Summit were state leaders: President T. Solomon, Vice- President Gwendolyn Fields, Treasurer Rose McKay, and Rev. Dr. Caroline Shine (president of W.Volusia/Seminole Section).
Also in December, we enjoyed "holiday cheer," while also conducting meaningful state business via the Executive Committee meeting held in Tampa. Representation was good.
In February, FSC applauded its historic first Day at the Capitol visit under the current administration. President Tee Solomon and Vice President Gwen Fields were among the attendees. Kudos to the DAC committee chaired by Tamara Felton-Howard, Esquire for the trip's coordination, which allowed networking opportunity with the Florida Legislators and visits into the sessions of the House & Senate.
There is much to praise from the numerous initiatives, programs, committee activities, and accomplishments that leaders and members collectively are implementing in FL. Systematically, FSC's statewide-operations can be viewed as cohesive, purposeful, and sisterly.
Thank you to every officer, chair, co-chair, committee member, and supporter for the vote of confidence that success will continue as everyone "moves FL forward!' Continue to grow the membership, be kind and patient with one another, and carry out the vision set forth by founder Dr. Bethune, Dr. Height, and other national, visionary leaders.
Know that NCNW's current national leaders Chair Dr. A. Lois Keith and President/CEO Rev. Shavon Arline Bradley have FSC's blessings for their leadership demonstrated on the national level. Be prepared to embrace the forthcoming changes.
Stay tuned for upcoming events and celebrations from the FL State Coalition!
All best,
President Tempress (Tee) Solomon
